Founded in 1933, Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital (Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital affiliated to Tongji University and Shanghai Occupational Disease Prevention and Treatment Hospital) is a modern tertiary level specialized teaching hospital integrating medical, teaching and research functions. The hospital has continuously won the honors such as "Shanghai Civilized Unit" and "May Day Labor Medal of Shanghai". The hospital ranks among the best in the city in its assessment of the ethos of the government and has been ranked among the Top 100 National Hospitals in the Fudan Hospital Management Institute in successive years.

The hospital covers an area of 103,000 square meters, construction area of 88,000 square meters, clean and tidy environment, excellent facilities. As the "Shanghai Garden Unit," the tree-lined Yejia Garden, which has been in existence for nearly a century, provides a beautiful and comfortable environment for the treatment and recuperation of patients.

There are 1000 beds, and 15 clinical departments, 11 medical departments and several research institutes in thoracic surgery, oncology, respiratory, tuberculosis and occupational diseases in the hospital. Now hospital has three clinical thoracic surgery, respiratory department, occupational disease clinical specialist, a municipal key laboratories, a clinical center and lung cancer, lung disease, tuberculosis, occupational disease four clinical research center. Thoracic surgery Fudan Hospital Management Institute ranked third in the country. Respiratory Diseases Chinese hospital science and technology influence specialist ranked fourth in the country, Shanghai first. Tuberculosis Branch Chinese hospital science and technology influence specialist ranks second in the country. The hospital also undertook the task of nuclear emergency rescue and treatment and owned a national nuclear emergency medical rescue unit to successfully fulfill several major emergency rescue and rescue tasks. In 2016, the hospital provided outpatient and emergency services 946681 person-times, discharged persons 77579, thoracic surgery 10392 cases, the average length of stay 5.34 days.

During the 12th five-year plan, the hospital presided over and participated in 3 major projects of the "12th Five-year Plan" of the State Health and Family Planning Commission, 1 project of 973 plan, 1 national key project, 1 major research and development project, 2 major projects and 1 international cooperation project. There are 148 research projects above the ministry level (of which 76 are natural in China). In 2016, we received 28 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects, including 1 sub-project of major R & D program of Ministry of Science and Technology and 16 natural sciences (including 2 excellent ones).
