On the afternoon of November 14th, Tongji University and the Shanghai Disabled Persons' Federation signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement. Both entities will deepen their collaboration to jointly propel the construction of a high-standard research-oriented rehabilitation hospital, establish a top-tier rehabilitation discipline, and set a new benchmark for rehabilitation medicine, thereby achieving fresh milestones in leveraging technology to support the disabled community.

The signing ceremony took place at Yangzhi Rehabilitation Hospital, affiliated with Tongji University. Yu Lijuan, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Municipal Political Consultative Conference and Honorary Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Disabled Persons' Federation, Fang Shouen, Secretary of the CPC Tongji University Committee, and Du Songquan, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Shanghai Disabled Persons' Federation, attended the event and delivered speeches.

The agreement stipulates that Tongji University and the Shanghai Disabled Persons' Federation will harness the university's cutting-edge technological prowess in artificial intelligence, brain-computer interfaces, and other areas to jointly advance the construction of a high-standard research-oriented rehabilitation hospital, found a leading rehabilitation medical school and municipal new-type research and development institution, foster the development of the intelligent rehabilitation industry, bolster the disabled care service system, and establish a domestically leading comprehensive platform for technology-assisted disability support that integrates "medicine, education, research, production, and application," comprehensively elevating the technological application level for disabled individuals in rehabilitation medicine, education and employment, barrier-free transportation, and quality of life. The scope of cooperation will cover discipline construction, talent cultivation, scientific and technological research and development, the intelligent rehabilitation industry, and social services.

Following the signing, Yu Lijuan, Fang Shouen, and Du Songquan toured the hydrotherapy area, hyperbaric oxygen chamber, neurorehabilitation center treatment area, work-related injury occupational rehabilitation treatment area, intelligent rehabilitation area, and other sections to gain insights into the hospital's medical platform facilities and other rehabilitation medical resources.

Yangzhi Rehabilitation Hospital, jointly established by the Shanghai Disabled Persons' Federation and Tongji University in 2013, has since emerged as a municipal tertiary rehabilitation hospital. Over the past decade, it has built a rehabilitation medical system encompassing seven major centers, optimized comprehensive support platforms, opened a second phase of the hospital area, and continually expanded its scale and influence. The hospital is home to multiple disciplinary platforms, including the National Clinical Key Specialty (Rehabilitation Medicine), the Shanghai Municipal Key Research Center for Rehabilitation Medicine, and the Shanghai Municipal Hospital Rehabilitation Medicine Specialty Alliance. The undergraduate program in rehabilitation physical therapy has nurtured hundreds of exceptional rehabilitation talents, marking breakthroughs in various fields of medicine, education, and research.
